The city walls were built by taking stones cut from the theater. So the theater was sacrificed for the sake of defense. The podium, then the seating stairs, exterior walls, arches, and vaults were severely damaged. The remaining parts continued to be dismantled for use in wall gates. It is reported that the theater can accommodate 15,000 people. Due to the soil and debris, a layer 9.5 meters deep formed on it. As a result of excavations, the eastern and western phase of 45 meters was completely discovered. The artifacts found were taken under the protection of the Iznik Museum.
