The bridge was built in 1442 during the reign of Murad. There are a total of 32 stores on the bridge, which are used as mosques, while others are used as barns and warehouses. The bazaar on the bridge, which was damaged in the earthquake of 1855, has been converted into an open market with wooden shops in the form of houses in the 19th century and serves as shops for traditional handicrafts. It is considered the oldest bridge market in the world.
