It dates back to the third century of the Roman era, it was narrowed down to the Byzantine period in the sixth century. The castle was rebuilt in its present form during the reign of the Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat. It consists of two parts, external and internal. The inner fortress was converted into a separate castle with the city walls being added to its perimeter due to its high structure compared to the outer castle. The outer castle consisting of outer walls and fortresses protecting the city, an administrative center and a residential area in general. The city did not need any defense during the Ottoman period, as neighborhoods were established in the inner citadel and the Fatih Sharif Mosque was built during this period. It was built by the decree of the Conqueror, Sultan Mehmed, under the supervision of Jedik Ahmed Pasha.
