Built as a church in 1886 with permission from Sultan Abdul Hamid, the building was converted into a mosque in 1925-1926. Some sources state that the building was constructed by Metropolitan Iones. Especially the mosques exterior architecture is impressive. The interior is not very attractive from neglect. The open mosque for worship today also attracts tourists.
