There are records indicating that the inner walls of the castle were built by the Byzantines in the 7th and 9th centuries. Some records indicate that the castle was built by the Hittites who ruled in the 16th century. The fortress enlarged by the Seljuks includes more than twenty towers. Ankara Houses and Alaeddin Mosque can be visited in the Citadel. The castle has an area of 43 square kilometers, of which 42 are towers up to 16 meters high.
