The museum was established under the auspices of the Turkish Air Force in 1997 and was inaugurated in 1998. It contains aviation equipment belonging to different eras, and it has very many models of aircraft, including those of the Turkish, Pakistani, and Bulgarian forces and others. The museum also has sections for pilots that include their possessions and aviation equipment, and there is a special corner for the pilot Sabiha Gökçen, the first woman to work as a fighter pilot in Turkey. The museum includes two sites, one of them is open and the second is closed, and the closed place includes life-size models of aircraft and missile models dating back to the 17th century. .
