Sule - the ancient city of Pompeopolis, the city that began to be used as a settlement in the 7th century BC, continued under Persian rule until the 5th century BC. As of this date, with the domination of Alexander the Great in the region, Sule gained her freedom and the currency conversion was achieved, which is one of the symbols of freedom in the city. The brightest period of the port city of Sule occurred under the control of Seleucus in the Hellenistic period. The city, which gradually lost its luster after this period, turned into a place where pirates settled on the mountain after the first century BC. The city, which came under Roman rule in the first century AD, has begun to return to its former glory. The fact that it is home to important ancient ruins such as Colonnade Street with 33 columns, a hill with a diameter of 300 meters and an ancient port allows us to place the ancient city of Sule in an important place among the ancient cities of Mersin.
