The word Barikhi Monastery comes from the Georgian language and means cave rock. Built in the 9th century, this Orthodox Georgian monastery quickly became the place where the regions clergy retreated as a congregation. It was built on steep land, in very poor condition as it is not used today, since there are two churches in the monastery, the building is sometimes referred to as the double chapel.
