The cave was discovered by chance in 1948 during digging operations in the port of Alanya, then the cave became one of the most important centers for medical tourism in Turkey, and Damalatas is one kilometer away from Alanya city center. The air temperature in the cave remains constant at 23.3 degrees Celsius in summer and winter, and the humidity is at 98 percent. The cave receives thousands of visitors annually from inside and outside the country, and it contains crystals that were formed between 15 and 20 thousand years. Doctors advise asthma patients to visit the cave in order to recover.
