Selim Sri Pasha, known as the first road and bridge engineer of the Ottoman Empire, served as governor of Izmit between 1888-1894. The palace that he built himself was built in 1892. The Seri Pasha Palace, which is considered a model of civil architecture in the nineteenth century, was made of two floors of wood. The interior of the palace is decorated with ancient carvings and pieces.
