It is a Seljuk tower built in 1226 with a length of 33 meters and a diameter of 29 meters built by the Seljuk commander Alaeddin Caykubat, and the tower is a defensive and control structure built to protect the commercial activities of the Seljuk port and to prevent attacks directed against the castle from the land side, i.e. as a line of defense and preliminary control to protect the city. This monumental work of military architecture was restored between 1951-1953 and is nowadays used to house a museum displaying art and architecture of the Seljuk era.
