The Sultan Mosque was built as a complex by Hafsa Sultan, the mother of Suleiman the Magnificent. The mosque, which houses an elementary school, was completed in 1522 by the architect of that period, Asim Ali. A bathroom was added to the mosque in 15938 and a hospital in 1539. The mosque underwent restoration work that began in 2007 and continued for about a year.
