The ancient city of Thyatira The ancient city dates back to 3000 BC. The ancient city in which the Church of Thyatira was located was a major military and commercial point because of its location where the ring roads intersect. The history of the city dates back to the Bronze Age. The ancient city hosted a very important war during the Roman period. Procopius, commander of Cilicia, took the legions that had rebelled behind him in 366 BC and faced Valens, heir to the throne, and the uprising was suppressed at the end of the war. Antique Thyatira is one of the most famous historical places in Manisa, due to its location among the important ancient cities of Manisa and the abundance of unearthed artifacts.
