As a result of works that lasted until 1937, a significant part of the Temple of Apollo was discovered. Stunning with its sheer size, the temple is believed to have been completed in the middle of the sixth century BC. The temple was built in the Hellenistic architecture in the name of Alexander the Great, who defeated the Persians. Excavations carried out by the British in the area in 1858 played a major role in the emergence of the temple. It occupies an important position because it is the third largest temple built in the name of Apollo.
