Temple of Apollo, the third largest temple built for Apollo. The temple built in honor of Alexander the Great, who triumphed over the Persians, bears traces of Hellenistic architecture. The temple, whose construction is believed to have been completed in the middle of the sixth century B.C., was first excavated by the British in 1858, and discoveries have been made indicating a massive temple with 124 columns in two rows in the past. In the temple garden, there are Medusa reliefs, which became the symbol of Didim. Medusa, one of the three underground siblings who have venomous snakes in her hair, is the mortal among the siblings known as Gorgons. For this reason, it is known as the only engraved Gorgon.
