The mosque is a very important historical structure, the first during the Ottoman period because, it was built in 1562 by the commander Suleiman the Magnificent, the Great Minister of Cyprus, Lala Mustafa Pasha, a madrasa and a palace were built next to the mosque built by Mimar Sinan, but unfortunately these works did not survive until Today, restoration work was carried out in the mosque several times in different periods, and eventually it was restored and opened for worship in the early twenty-first century. The decoration of the mosque was damaged during the Russian occupation of the city. The octagonal wooden fountain in the courtyard of the mosque is one of the points that increases the value of the mosque.
