It is a historical heritage of the Urartians, famous as one of the castles that are difficult to besiege throughout history. It is estimated that the castle was built in the eighth century BC. The castle could not be shared between the Persians in the sixth century BC, and then between the Parthians, Romans, Sassanians, Byzantines and Sassanids, Many struggles were fought for the castle, the Byzantines controlled the castle until the eleventh century, since this date several Turkish emirates seized the castle and in 1234, the Seljuks took control of the castle, in 1515 the castle and its surroundings were included in the Ottoman lands by Yavuz Sultan Selim , popularly known as Milk Castle, because the castle mortar was made of milk instead of water by order of the ruler of that period, as there was a shortage of water during the construction of the castle, the rectangular castle consists of two main parts, inner and outer, cut stone and natural rocks were used mostly.
