It is 30 meters high, and can accommodate 25,000 people. It is one of the most important tourist attractions in Turkey due to the magnificence of its design, the enormity of its construction, its history, approaching 2000 years, and it is considered one of the best preserved ancient theaters so far in the world. The theater was built on the orders of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius 161-180 AD. At the beginning of the thirteenth century, the Seljuk Turks settled in Aspendos. During the reign of Alaeddin Kikbat I, the theater was restored and decorated with tiles in the Seljuk style and used as a palace. Over time, the theater was destroyed by an earthquake in the fourth century, after which the theater was only partially repaired. In the eighth century, the theater was placed within the defense system of the city Now, the theater has been restored and preserved for later use during the Ephesus Festival of Art and Culture.
