Batman, this settlement called Ilikhan, meaning inn, was founded in 546 BC, and enjoyed an independent period until it was conquered by Alexander the Great in 331 BC. Batman, which is mountainous in the north and south, and especially in the northeast, has a wonderful nature with more than 4 thousand caves, in the area where features of a continental climate are observed, summers are hot and dry, while winters are cold and snowy. A fifth of Turkeys oil needs are met by the oil extracted from Mount Raman. Batman which has an oil-based industry owns brick, lentil and biscuit factories, most of which are small businesses. Agricultural activities in the area are carried out in the Batman Plain and Bashiri Plains, which are among the fertile plains of Turkey. It is known that in the region where cotton, grains, tobacco, fruit vegetables and legumes are harvested, progress has been made in agriculture and livestock farming thanks to the Southeast Anatolian Project (GAP).
