One of the largest wetlands in Turkey is in Eskişehir in the Balikdam Bird Sanctuary. Balkdam, one of the bird lands in Asia, is known as the Amazon of Central Anatolia. Located on a large area of 30,000 acres, the area consists of a large reed and a pond. It hosts 256 species of migratory birds and many species of fish, which is a natural wonder. It was declared a Class II Nature Reserve in 1980 and a Wildlife Conservation Area in 1994.
