Usak, means the city of lovers. It is believed that the first settlement was in the fourth millennium BC. This area, which was under the rule of the Hittites in 2000 BC, came under the rule of the Cimmerians, Phrygians and Lydians respectively. As a result of the defeat of the Lydians at the hands of the Persians, the lands ruled by the Persians were joined to the Kingdom of Macedonia with the arrival of Alexander the Great. Usak, which passed to the Romans in 189 BC, was left to Byzantium after Rome was divided in two in 395. After the Battle of Manzikert, Anatolia began to become Turkish. Ushak was taken from Byzantium by the liberator Suleiman Shah in 1076, and again in 1098 it passed to the Byzantines. In 1429 the Ottoman Empire established the final dominance of the lands that were passing back and forth between the Seljuks and the Byzantines. Located in the temperate continental climate zone, Usak receives an average of 567 mm of rain throughout the year. While the air temperature varies between 22 and 23 degrees Celsius in July and August, it drops to an average of 3 degrees Celsius in January.
