Tekirdag, the 20th most populous city in Turkey, has an area of 6,339 square kilometers. According to the census made in 2018, more than one million people live in Tekirdag. Lower Paleolithic tools have been found in Tekirdag. The city, which met the grain needs of Constantinople during the Roman period, was renovated in the 6th century by order of Justinian I. Tekirdag, which was conquered by Murad I in 1357, was recaptured by the Byzantines, but Murad I occupied the city again 10 years later. Tekirdags climate is continental. The city receives an average of 600 mm of rain annually. While the average temperature is 22°C in July and August, it drops to around 4°C in January. In the Museum of Archeology and Ethnography, the remains discovered as a result of excavations from 4500 BC are presented.
