Gazi Elmedar Ship Museum, opened as a museum in 2008, is one of the great places that sheds light on history. During the War of Independence, the French tried to seize the small warship named Elmedar, which was hijacked by the Patriots. The Patriots, not wanting this to happen, brought the ship to the Black Sea port of Egli and stopped it. Enraged by this situation, the French wanted to occupy the city but were unsuccessful.
