The park comprises an area of 51 thousand 550 hectares. It was declared a national park in 1994, and it is also featured as one of 200 environmental hotspots that must be protected by the WWF. Kachkar Mountains National Park, which has the largest share of tourism in Rize, is visited by thousands of local and foreign tourists every year. Mountains with a very rich nature of streams, glacial lakes, woodlands, alpine meadows, sub-forest plants and endemic flower species, is an area rich in animal origins. It forms the highest point of the Black Sea region, reaching a height of 4 thousand meters in some places. There are at least 100 glacial lakes, about 40 rural settlements, and many plateaus.
