In 1998, it was selected as one of the priority areas in the European Forestry Areas protected by the WWF, and in 2000 it was declared a National Park. The mountains located in the western part of the Black Sea are one of the most diverse places for plants and animals. It is one of the pristine places open to the public in this region, within the boundaries of Kastamonu County, and contains animals such as deer, bear, wolf, fox, hare, wild boar, songbirds and birds of prey.
