Built on a solid basalt rock, it was declared a Class III archaeological site and was built in the 12th century in the Seljuk era to protect the Baghdad Caravan Road. It was restored by Nevşirli Ibrahim Pasha in the Ottoman era. Found an underground city, where there are frescoes depicting the Ascension of Christ, and an important historical church for Orthodox Christians, there are also monasteries carved into the rock from the 5th and 6th centuries.
