The foundations of the museum in the city were first laid by the Director of National Education, Mustafa Noyan in 1932, with the construction of a warehouse, when the current museum was damaged by the earthquake in Van in 2011, the museum was reconstructed with impressive glass architecture at the foot of the Van Castle, Built in a very modern way, covering an area of 13,000 square meters, very valuable historical artifacts are displayed, especially from the Urartian period, and objects of historical value such as various jewellery, military objects and earthen objects belonging to other societies that dominated the region such as Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman There is also a section in the museum in which various documents about the massacres committed by the Armenians during the Russian occupation of the region are presented.
