Mount Nemrut, the most famous spot in Adiyaman, Mount Nemrut which was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1986, was put under protection as a national park in 1988. It is famous for the finds belonging to the Commagene kingdom in the late Hellenistic period, named after the eponymous Babylonian rulers Nimrod, who threw Abraham into the fire, is important to different beliefs such as Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. BC Mount Nemrut, which was decorated with large statues by the Commagene kingdom in the first century, is called the Mountain of the Gods because of the statues of Antiochus and the goddess on the eastern and western terraces. King Antiochus Theos built a tomb temple for himself along with the statues of Greek and Persian deities on the mountain, this tomb was shaped with carved figures of divine stone resembling the head of an eagle. In 1881 excavations were carried out in the tomb by the German engineer Karl Sister, but the tomb of King Antiochus was not found. famous stone statues on the mountain; It represents King Antiochus (Theos), Heracles (Ares Artagnes), Zeus (Euromades), Fortuna (the Commagene goddess), and Apollo (Mithras).
