One of the oldest castles in Anatolia, dating back to the Hittite-Urartu period, located on steep rocks, in a staggered construction and surrounded by walls, archaeological finds obtained in excavations in the Erzincan and Erzurum plains indicate that the history of the region dates back to before BC , indicating that it dates back to 4000-3000 years ago, it is known that the Urartians, Scythians, Sumerians, Medes, Persians, Parthians and Romans lived in Kema after Hyasas until the Byzantine era, after the dissolution of Rome it became one of the important cities of the Arsacid state until the tenth century AD, these lands were ruled by the Byzantines Between 379-678, it was overwhelmed by the Arabs after Islam, and it traded several times between the Arabs and the Byzantines until it came under the rule of the Turks. Eastern Anatolia is under Ottoman rule, and in the same period the castle was captured by a gang of rebels threatening the surrounding area, after this situation, Yavuz Sultan Selim himself participated in the siege with Zou Kemah Castle and consequently Kemah entering the Ottoman lands in 1515.
