Built in the fifth century according to historical sources. The monastery was called saffron because it was named after the saffron that grew in the area in the fifteenth century. It was also used as an educational area in a certain period. It was also used as a printing press in 1876 where books were printed in many different languages. Constructed as an Assyrian monastery, the building includes many buildings such as the Mor Hanoya Church and the House of Saints. It was the Temple of the Sun when it was first built, and later the monastery used by the Romans for defense.
