The building that houses the Sakip Sabanci Mardin City Museum and Dilek Sabanci Art Gallery, built during World War II, was built as a cavalry barracks in 1889 by the governor of Diyarbakir, Haji Hasan Pasha, during the reign of Abdülhamid and served in this way for many years.
