Ahmed Aref is one of the most important poets who grew up in Diyarbakir, Diyarbakir Palace where the Museum of Literature was opened in his name, is a very historical building dating back nearly 120 years, the building was restored and opened to visitors in 2011 under the control of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. There are many important personal belongings of Ahmed Aref, his handwritten poems, and the poets pictures are in the museum. In the library there are many important books. Ahmed Aref died in 1991 as a result of a heart attack.
