Yassos Fish Market Museum, excavations began in the museum in 1993 and on August 11, 1995, it began operating as an open-air museum. Although the ancient area was in fact a mausoleum, the Italians misnamed it and it has remained under that name until today. The remains displayed in an area of 107 x 87 meters belong to a very wide time period between the Early Bronze Age (3300-3000 BC) and the Byzantine period (1261-1453 AD). It is estimated that the urbanization of the city dates back to the fourth century BC, the cemetery was used between the fourth and second centuries BC. It is also known that the red stones found in the area were sent to Istanbul and were used in the construction of the Hagia Sophia Museum.
