During the 93 war of 1878, when the Russians occupied Edirne, almost all of the palace was destroyed due to the bombing of the arsenal near the palace so that it would not fall into their hands. Built by Fatih Sultan Mehmet, the Jihanuma wing, a section very damaged today, has seven floors and is the most striking building in the palace. The Justice Pavilion, built by the architect Mimar Sinan in 1562 by order of Suleiman the Magnificent, is the only structure in the palace still intact. The Fatih Bridge was built by the Fatih Sultan Mehmed in 1452 to provide harmony and integrity to the Edirne Palace. The bridge, which was used as an arsenal during the Russian occupation, is also known as the Armory Bridge.
