The monument, 41.7 meters high and consisting of a dome built on four legs, was inaugurated on August 21, 1960. It is estimated that over 213,882 martyrs were martyred in Canakkale, which was the scene of one of the most controversial wars in history. There is a Turkish flag embroidered with mosaics on the ceiling of the monument. Millions of people visit Çanakkale Martyrs Cemetery and Martyrs Monument, especially on March 18 Çanakkale Martyrs Victory and Martyrs Day, which is celebrated all over Turkey.
