Yalova is one of the cities hardest hit by the earthquake of August 17, 1999. The city, which has suffered so much painful losses and damage, commemorates what it has lost since that day on this monument. One year after the earthquake, in the year 2000, the monuments built by the sculptor mit Öztürk bear the names of the 2,504 people who died in the earthquake.
