It was built with neoclassical features and is inspired by European Baroque style. The decorations on the ceiling of the palace belong to the French painter Sassoon. Among the motifs were the Ottoman coat of arms, the Abd al-Aziz flag, the motifs of the spear, ax and sword set, flowers and fruits. It used to be a county and agricultural room until 1967, it has been in use as the Izmit Museum since this year. It was repaired and put into operation in 1992, but was severely damaged by the 1999 earthquake. Restoration work was carried out again in 2004 and after the completion of inspections, the palace began hosting its visitors as a museum in 2007.
