The fortresses of Eros and Emros, which were interchangeably built at the junction of the Black Sea and the Bosphorus, were used for military and commercial purposes. Castles remained in Byzantine hands under the auspices of the Genoese when Eastern Rome was weak. The Ottomans conquered the castles in the 14th century. Yoros Castle was included in the UNESCO Tentative List in 2013 as a result of its characteristics, proving its importance and the history of its construction.
